New Champion: Braum, the Heart of the Freljord

Following his official reveal earlier todayBraum is now up on the PBE for testing!

Concussive Blows ( Passive )
Braum and his allies work together to stun a target.
Braum's basic attacks apply Concussive Blows. Once the first stack is applied, ally basic attacks also stack Concussive Blows.
Upon reaching 4 stacks, the target is stunned for 1.25/1.5/1.75 ( at level 1/7/13 ) second(s ) and takes 70 - 240 magic damage. For the next 8 seconds, they cannot receive stacks but take 14 - 48 bonus magic damage from Braum's attacks.

Fills up the icon as you build up stacks

Winter's Bite ( Q )
Braum propels freezing ice from his shield dealing 80/125/170/215/260 (+ RATIO) [2.5% of Braum's Max Health] magic damage to the first target hit and slowing them by 70%, decaying over the next 2 seconds. 
Applies a stack of Concussive Blows 
Cooldown: 10/9/8/7/6
Mana Cost: 55/60/65/70/75

Stand Behind Me ( W )
Braum leaps to a target allied champion or minion. 
On arrival, Braum and the ally gain Y Armor and X Magic Resist (20/22.5/25/27.5/30 plus 14/15.5/17/18.5/20%  of Braum's bonus Armor/Magic Resist) for 3 seconds 
Cooldown: 14/13/12/11/10
Mana Cost: 30/40/50/60/70
Armor and MR buff

Unbreakable ( E )
Braum reduces incoming damage and blocks for allies behind him.
Braum raises his shield in a direction for 3/3.25/3.5/3.75/4 seconds negating the damage of the next attack from this direction. Subsequent attacks deal 30/32.5/35/37.5/40% reduced damage. Braum intercepts projectiles, causing them to hit him and be destroyed. 
Braum gains 10% Movement Speed for the duration. 
Cooldown:  18/16/14/12/10
Mana Cost: 30/35/40/45/50

Glacial Fissure ( R )
Braum slams the ground, knocking up enemies nearby and in a line in front of him. A fissure is left along the line that slows enemies. 
Enemies hit take 150/250/350 (+0.6 AP) magic damage. The first champion hit is knocked up for 1.5 seconds, subsequent enemies are knocked up briefly. 
For the next 4 seconds enemies that enter the area are slowed by 60% for 1.5 seconds. 
Cooldown: 140/120/100
Mana Cost: 100 at all ranks

As you may have heard in the VO video, Braum has oodles of special VO lines for buying various items, poros, and several champions!


  • "These shoes... they are too tight!" (Boots of Speed)
  • "No sneaking up on Braum this time." (Sightstone)
  • "Sight is the key to victory... also stone." (Sightstone)
  • "Fire does the body good." (Sunfire Cape)
  • "I've always wanted an on-fire cloak." (Sunfire Cape)
  • "Ooh, now I need marshmallow." (Sunfire Cape)
  • "To friends I am snowfall, to enemies I am avalanche!" (Frozen Heart)
  • "Ha-ha! Perfect!" (Boots of Mobility)
  • "My shield will protect this shield." (Randuin's Omen)
  • "A shield for my shield? I like it!" (Randuin's Omen)
  • "This has the smell of a faraway land. Perhaps I shall see it one day." (Ancient Coin)

Poro Snax:
  • "Eat, eat and grow strong!"
  • "Train hard little poro and one day you will be strong like.. baby."
These trigger when you feed a poro-snax to a poro on the Howling Abyss map. Feeding them also triggers them to grow a handsome mustache, different colors based on the Braum skin you use.

  • "You remind me of Agatha. Best cow back home!"
  • "Alistar, I have cow you should meet."

  • "Mother gave me bear as child too, Annie."

    • "After this we share a drink. You like goats milk?"
    • "What's your poison, Gragas? Mine's milk."

    • "Tryndamere! This is fun, right?"

    • "Your hair... we do not see things like this in the Freljord."

    It also looks like he has some special interactions when blocking certain abilities with his E. I couldn't get them to trigger in game but here are my best guesses based on the files:

    • "Look, your axes bounce right off" - Draven Ult
    • "Good Shot, you'll get them next time" - Ezreal Ult and Caitlyn Ult ( ? )
    • "I'm having cold flashes" - Ashe Ult
    • "Heh, it is windy today" - Riven Ult
    • "Ah! A refreshing sea breeze" - Nami Ult

    Braum Special Interaction w/ Fizz

    Following his original interactions for AlistarAnnieGragasTryndamere, and ViBraum also has a new special taunt for Fizz.

    ''You're never too old to be told a story.''

    The girl reluctantly crawls into bed and waits, knowing she won't win this battle. A bitter wind howls outside, whipping falling snow into devil whirls.

    ''What kind? A tale of the Ice Witch, perhaps?'' her grandmother asks.

    ''No, not her.''

    ''What about a story of Braum?'' She was met with silence. The old woman smiles. ''Oh, there are so many. My grandmother used to tell me of the time Braum protected our village from the great dragon! Or once - this was long ago - he raced down a river of lava! Or -'' She pauses; puts a finger to her lips. ''Have I told you how Braum got his shield?''

    The girl shakes her head. The hearth fire snaps, holding off the wind.

    ''Well. In the mountains above our village lived a man named Braum -''

    ''I know that!''

    ''He mostly kept to his farm, tending his sheep and goats, but he was the kindest man anyone had ever met, and he always had a smile on his face and a laugh on his lips.

    ''Now, one day something terrible happened: a young troll boy around your age - was climbing the mountain and happened on a vault, set into the mountainside, the entrance guarded by a huge stone door with a shard of True Ice at its center. When he opened the door, he couldn't believe his eyes: the vault was filled with gold, jewels - every kind of treasure you could imagine!

    ''What he didn't know was that the vault was a trap. The Ice Witch had cursed it - and as the troll boy entered, the magical door CLANGED shut behind him and locked him inside! Try as he might, he couldn't get out.

    ''A passing shepherd heard his cries. Everyone rushed to help, but even the strongest warriors couldn't open the door. The boy's parents were beside themselves; his mother's wails of grief echoed around the mountain. It seemed hopeless.

    ''And then, to everyone's surprise, they heard a distant laugh.''

    ''It was Braum, wasn't it?''

    ''Aren't you clever! Braum had heard their cries and came striding down the mountainside. The villagers told him of the troll boy and the curse. Braum smiled, nodded, turned to the vault, and faced the door. He pushed it. Pulled it. Punched it; kicked it; tried to rip it from its hinges. But the door wouldn't budge.'' 
    ''But he's the strongest man ever!''

    ''It was perplexing,'' her grandmother agrees. ''For four days and nights, Braum sat on a boulder, trying to think of a solution. After all, a child's life was at stake.

    ''Then, as the sun rose on the fifth day, his eyes widened and a broad grin lit up his face. If I can't go through the door,' he said, then I'll just have to go through -''

    The girl thinks; her own eyes widen. ''- the mountain!''

    ''The mountain. Braum headed to the summit and began punching his way straight down, pummeling into the stone, fist after fist, rocks flying in his wake, until he had vanished deep into the mountain.

    ''As the villagers held their breath, the rock around the door crumbled - and when the dust cleared, they saw Braum standing amidst the treasure, the weak but happy troll boy in his arms.''

    ''I knew he could do it!''

    ''But before they could celebrate, everything began to rumble and shake: Braum's tunnel had weakened the mountaintop, and now it was caving in! Thinking quickly, Braum grabbed the enchanted door and held it above him like a shield, protecting them as the mountaintop collapsed all around them. When it was over, Braum was amazed: there wasn't a single scratch on the door! Braum knew it was something very special.

    ''And from that moment on, that magical shield never left Braum's side.''

    The girl is sitting upright, struggling to conceal her excitement. Her grandmother waits. She shrugs and gets up to leave.

    ''Grandma,'' the girl stops her, ''can you tell me another?''

    ''Tomorrow.'' Her grandmother smiles; kisses her forehead; blows out the candle. ''For you need to sleep, and there are many more stories to tell.''"

    After being pulled from an earlier build for improvements, it seems Night Hunter Rengar is back with a completed splash art and the ability to toggle his hood up and down.

    The unreleased Atlantean Syndra's has received a few color changes to bring her more in line with hersplash art.

    Whistler Village Twitch Vintage Border

    Whistler Village Twitch's vintage treatment loading screen border has been readded, presumably after being removed accidentally with his visual update.

    New Ward Skins

    The 4/29 Update featured two new ward skins - one to celebrate the upcoming All-Star event in Paris, France and the other to go along with the Dragonslayer line of skins!

    A new icon, presumably for the upcoming All-Stars event, was also stuffed in this PBE update. No details on it's availability yet. 

    Surprise Party Fiddlesticks Party Hat Fear

    Looks like Surprise Party Fiddlesticks' special party hat fear visual effects are back after disappearing several patches ago.

    New Sunfire Cape VFX

    As mentioned previously, Sunfire Cape has received a new set of visual effects! It now pulses out flames around your feet instead of all over your body.

    Here's Riot Rayven with more info:
    "Hey folks, we are revisiting some of our item effects to increase quality and clarify gameplay. First up is the old cape of suns (Sunfire Cape). 
    As you probably know, Sunfire Cape is an AoE damage aura item, but its current effect looks more like a DoT - similar to Ignite. This rework more clearly aligns 
    Sunfire's visual with its gameplay through a pulsing aoe fire aura.
    Try it for yourself in game!"

    Updated Cleanse, Exhaust, Clarity, and Flash VFX

    The summoner spells ExhaustClarity, and Cleanse have received brand new VFX, while Flashreceived an update! ( Remember that this IS the PBE and these are WIP! )

    The Air client summoner spell previews have all been updated to go along with the updates for Cleanse, Flash, Exhaust, and Clarity.

    Bot Cover Message

    When you load into a bot game, there is now a little message telling you that bots will adjust to your movement and the lanes you don't go to.

    Intermediate Bots Available in Custom Games

    Here's RoamingNumeral with more info: 
    "Since we started rolling out bot updates there have been many requests for the ability to select Intermediate bots in Custom games. We saw, we heard, we did it! 
    As of today you should be able to select Intermediate difficulty in Custom games on PBE. Right now the champions available in Custom games are the same as before, but we’re working to expand it to the full Co-op vs. AI roster. This full roster should be available on PBE soon. 
    A heads up on a known bug: if you are a player in the Custom lobby and NOT the host, Beginner bots will be tagged as “[Basic]” and Intermediates will be tagged as “[Beginner]”. This is a display bug only and the bots will be the correct difficulty (Beginner and Intermediate, respectively) in game. 
    As always on PBE, please let us know about any bugs or weirdness you find!"

    2014 Season Rewards 

    A new notice advising players to check out the new 2014 season rewards pops up when logging into the PBE!

    When you  follow the instructions and click on the Leagues tab you get a brand new page, listing all sorts of 2014 Ranked TEAM Rewards - including mention of unlocking and upgrading a ward skin.

    "We're currently testing an updated Leagues page that shows both your list of current leagues and your progress towards end-of-season rewards. You'll also notice that we've added unique summoner icons as a reward for the highest tier achieved in 3v3 and 5v5 as well as added a new class of Team Rewards, unlockable based on the number of wins you attain in Ranked 3s and 5s over the course of the season. The Team Reward is a ward skin that you can unlock and upgrade as you earn more wins, awarded at the end of the season. 

    Why are you introducing these new rewards?
    • Previously, we've given end-of-season rewards based exclusively on the highest tier players reached across the various ranked queues. Since ranked teams require more effort to coordinate and place a special focus on teamwork and collaboration, we've decided to introduce a new reward system specifically for ranked teams.

      Do I have to play on a single team to earn wins towards rewards?
      • Nope, you can be on as many teams as you want.

        Do ranked 3v3 games count towards wins?
        • Yes, they will count for 1 point towards rewards (5v5 counts for 3).

          Do I lose the wins I've earned if somebody kicks me off a team?
          • Nope, you will retain your wins.

            If I meet the requirements for rewards, when do I receive them?
            • All rewards will be distributed at the end of the season.

              Do wins I earned before the feature launched count towards rewards for this season?
              • Yes, all games that take place during the 2014 season will count towards season rewards."

              New Audio Engine Activated on PBE - Round 2

              Here's BelligerentSwan with an announcement that the new Audio Engine, something we first heard about a few months ago, is back on the PBE for testing!
              "Hey Summoners! For the next day we'll be turning on our new audio engine again for another round of testing on the PBE! The last time we activated the new audio engine, everyone came out in full force and gave us a lot of great feedback. We've been hard at work for the past few months trying to address some of these issues and would love to hear what you think. 
              We've had to change a few parameters around, so some of your favorite champions might sound slightly different. Things may be louder or quieter, VO lines might overlap, or some sounds just straight up might not work. However, surround sound and stereo panning should be functioning now. 
              If you find a sound that doesn't work, or if you want to leave feedback about the way things sound now, just leave a comment on this thread! We’ll be actively monitoring it and replying to your questions and concerns. Please let us know what equipment you’re using for audio (Stereo headphones vs. 5.1 surround sound speakers, Sound Blast Zx vs. Realtek HD Audio) so we can help narrow down the cause of the issues.
              If you’re unsure how to get that your system info, here’s a handy guide for PC and one for Mac
              Why are we changing audio engines? We’re looking to create a more immersive and engaging in-game league of legends audio experience, and this new engine will allow us to do a lot of cool things in the future. 
              The new audio engine won’t be going out with the next patch, but we will be working to hopefully bring it to you guys and girls sometime in 2014."

              New Team Builder Feature : Role Demand

              Here's Riot Blackrook with info on the tentative 4.7 updates for Team Builder, including a new Demand Board feature, that are now on the PBE!
              "Greetings PBE testers,
              Today we pushed out some new features for Team Builder that are tentatively slated to go live in 4.7 
              If you find any bugs, please try to reproduce them and post the steps you used to do so in this thread. Doctah Wayne and I will verify and make sure they get patched up before they go live. 
              We're also looking for your general feedback and comments about Team Builder, particularly regarding these changes: 
              1. Demand Board: Upon entering Team Builder as a Solo, you will see a real-time list of the most in-demand position/role pairs. (If you want to use one you can also just click the one you want and it will fill out the spec for you.) 
              2. Play Again Button: After you finish a game of Team Builder, the "Play Again" button is now clickable for Captains. Clicking it will automatically put you back into Team Builder and send invites to your premade from last game. 
              3. Invites say Team Builder: When your friend invites you to a Team Builder lobby, the invite will now specify Team Builder so you can tell the difference between TB and Blind Pick. 

              As you can see in this picture, the roles in demand have shifted and new icons for each role are visible.

              Balance Changes

              * Remember *: The PBE is a testing grounds for new, tentative, and sometimes radical changes. The changes you see below may be lacking context or other accompanying changes that didn't make it in - don't freak out! These are not official notes.


              • Winter's Bite ( Q ) mana cost reduced to  55/60/65/70/75 from 60/65/70/75/80

              • Drunken Rage ( W ) cooldown lowered to 6 at all ranks from 8/7.5/7/6.5/6  ( Reverted )
              • Explosive Cask ( R ) [[ range appears to be up to 1150 from 1050 ]]

              Jarvan IV
              • Martial Cadence ( Passive ) now starts at 10% ( up from 6/8/10% ) damage but cool down has been increased to 10/8/6 seconds ( from 6 seconds ). Cooldown decreases at level 7 and 13. 
              • Golden Aegis ( W )  mana cost lowered to 30 at all ranks from 45/50/55/60/65

              • Null Sphere ( Q ) shield decreased to 40/70/100/130/160 ( .3 ) from 40/80/120/160/200 ( .8 ) 


              • Void Assault ( R ) recast time increased to 15 seconds from 10 seconds

              Miss Fortune
              • Double Up ( Q )  now has a .35 AP ratio on the initial damage and a .5 AP ratio on the second hit. 

              • Granite Shield ( Passive ) recharge rate lowered to 10/8/6 ( reducing at level 7 and 13 ) from 10 seconds at all levels
              • Brutal Strikes ( W ) mana cost lowered to 25 at all ranks from 50/55/60/65/70

              • Staggering Blow ( Passive )  tool tip changed to "This effect cannot trigger on the same target more than once every 9 seconds." from 12 seconds
              • [ Context: Based on testing vs live - this is just a tool tip update. Seems it is already 9 seconds on live ]

                • Spinning Slash ( E ) tooltip now properly lists it grants rage when dealing damage to enemies
                • Context: tool tip update, no change ]
                • Sanguine Pool ( W ) tooltip lists Vlad is healed for 15%  of the damage done, up from 12.5%

                Game Systems

                • Now gives 145g per player, up from 125g.

                Fortification ( Turret Buff )

                • Damage reduction increased to 30 from 20.
                • Duration lowered to 7 minutes from 8 minutes
                • Now present on bottom turrets

                Feral Flare
                • Attack speed increased to 30% from 25%
                • Context: Live value is 35% ]
                • Attack damage increased to 12 from 10
                • Context: Live value is 15 ]
                • Unique Passive - Maim now reads "Maim: Basic attacks deal (25 + Feral stacks) bonus magic damage (300% against minions and monsters) and heal 10 Health on hit. Kills, assists and large monster kills grant a Feral stack." from "Maim: Basic attacks deal 100 bonus magic damage (33% against champions) and heal 10 Health on hit. This damage and heal increases with kills, assists and large monster kills."

                • [Note: Tl;dr = Seems Feral Flare's heal no longer scales up with stacks and the initial damage after transformation is lower but scales up the same. ]
                • PBE Damage to Champions: [ 25 base + # of stacks ( stacks reset to 0 at transformation ) ] = 25 damage at initial transformation, +1 damage per large monster/kills/assist
                • Live Damage to Champions : [100 base + 3 per stack (  stacks reset to 0 at transformation )] x .33 = 33 damage at initial transformation, +1 damage per large monster/assist/kill

                Madred's Razors
                • Attack speed lowerd to 15% from 12%
                • Unique Passive - Maim damage lowered to 50 from 60.

                Sunfire Cape

                Wriggle's Lantern
                • Attack speed reverted to 30 from 25
                • Attack damage reverted to 12 from 10
                • Feral Flare transformation reworked to "Transforms into Feral Flare at 30 kills, assists, and large monster kills" from "At 30 Feral Flare stacks"



                  • While not reflected in tooltips, all trinkets are now usable after 30 seconds.

                  Soul Anchor
                  • Active Consumes a charge to instantly revive at your Summoner Platform and grants 125% Movement Speed that decays over 12 seconds Additional charges are gained at levels 9 and 14.(Max: 2 charges)
                  • Context : This item originally appeared in the 4.6 PBE cycle but was pulled. It has now returned for more testing ]

                  Summoner Spells

                  • No longer lists " then removes any healing reduction effects that afflict either champion."
                  • Cooldown increased to 300 from 240 reverted.
