Tenative Heimerdinger Rework Leaked

Posted on at 3:00 AM by Moobeat
( Warning! This is a LEAK! Everything in here is subject to change and nothing is set in stone. )

I get lots of emails every day. A few of them tell me how cool the blog is, others tell me about emerging news, and the rest of them usually tell me about the legions of typos that plague my blog posts. Sometimes though, I get a special emails. I happened to receive a special email yesterday containing some information on a rework for Heimerdinger.

The closest most players will get to Doran's Workshop.
Before I get too far into this, I'd like to explain a little known place within the League of Legends community - Doran's Workshop, or DW for short.. DW is, according to the League of Legends wiki, "a private server where tentative and experimental changes are tested and iterated on. It was originally called the Private Test Realm (PTR)". You can visit it yourself but you will not be able to delve any deeper than the landing page. To access it, you need to be either a Riot Games employee or a hand picked member of the community ( estimated to only be around 40-50 members at any given time ). I don't have access, odds are you don't have access, and the vast majority of players do not have access. We don't really know much about whats in there, save for very, VERY scarce mentions on the forums ; for example, Guinsoo mentioned DW when talking about play testing the upcoming Karma rework a few months ago.

My special email was from someone inside DW, someone with access to all of this delicious work in progress information and someone who decided to share it.
A Screen Cap of DW's testing forum which contains a lot of the QoL, Buff, and Playtest threads. I wouldn't over examine this if I were you.

While all those forum topics and QoL threads are interesting, they are not the main focus of this particular blog post. That honor is reserved for a screen cap of a specific post, a post that happens to contain information on the long awaited Heimerdinger rework!

The revised kit retains the same three core ( although obviously more fancy! ) ablities and a similar "MAKE EVERYTHING BETTER" ult. Click here for a bigger version.

We've known FeralPony and Xypherous  been chugging away at a Heimerdinger rework for months and if you search for "Heimer" in these EUW and EUNE posts, you can see small inklings about the planned changes - smarter turrets, grenade speed, turrets and his ult being the primary focus of the remake, and changes to all of his abilities, yet no completely new ones. All of these posts mesh with the above rework, but my source assures me that they are only about midway through tweaking his kit ( numbers, ratios, ranges, whatever ).  For the millionth time, I'd also utilize this time to remind you these changes are not final or concrete in anyway. As evidence of how dramatically prototype information can change, I submit the difference Shurelia's Evelynn prototype, a game designer who has since left Riot,  and the actual Evelynn rework that was recently revealed.

So what should the community do with this new, very hush hush knowledge? Nothing! You should enjoy it for what it is and hope that it survives testing long enough to make it to live. If you took the time to read the beginning of the post, you saw that I mentioned that DW was a place for tentative and experimental changes. Anything and everything could change between now and whenever Riot feels comfortable releasing details about the new kit.

So, if this information is sooo sensitive, why even bother to share it? I'm sharing it because I think it's cool. I think it's really cool. It's probably one of the most interesting remakes we've seen yet. They took Heimer, a notoriously hard to balance and certainly underplayed champion, and made him more awesome while retaining the same flavor and play style he currently has. The new ultimate alone gives him a ludicrous amount of viability and utility - sustained damage, burst damage, or an AoE CC.

On the morality of the secretive PTR being cracked open, I generally feel leaks can be fun and they can show whats coming down the pipeline, instilling hope and renewing the interest of the community. I've never been reserved about posting them before, but I did mull over releasing this one for a while. In the end I came to the decision to post it because it's what I would like to read about as a player.

  3. Don't want to be a spoil sport but these kind of leaks are a little morally questionable (as you mentioned in the last paragraph). The PTR is private for a reason and it would be terrible if more information was leaked so that the testers can't do their work in peace. I presume the employees and ~50 members would've also agreed to some idea of privacy and this breaches that promise. This just sows seeds of mistrust in the members and hopefully won't result in less memberships being handed out.

    1. "Don't want to be a spoil sport"

Kind of sounds like you do. You seem to think this is the first time it's happened. If there were any seeds to sow, the fruitage would have already been recognized.

    2. Who cares if he's a spoil sport. He's 100% right. Just because the seeds of distrust have already been sown, doesn't make it okay to escalate things. Although these are fun an all, the Dev teams have additional mistruts of testers and of course, will be less trusting to new testers.

Basically, just because its there or already happened, doesn't make it okay.

    1. The guy who decided to leak this info did so on his own regard, the blog poster is in no way responsible for his decisions or whatever consequences he might get.

He justs informs us of the information he was given, freely and I'm sure with good knowledge he shouldn't do it and what might follow if they found out who handed out the information.

      Delete
    2. I'm pretty sure Riot can't do a damn thing to the blogger. The only person "responsible" is the one who leaked the info, and I doubt that's ever going to come out. Actually, i know for a fact Riot can't do anything to the blogger.

    3. Man. You guys just don't understand. If Moobeat didn't post this information, what would change? NOTHING. The anonymous source would have just gone to another blogger or news poster and leaked information to them instead. It is obvious that whoever leaked this info was determined to have it published, whether or not Moobeat posted it would have no effect on the consequences whatsoever, it would only mean we would be reading this from a different website.

If Riot sees this blog, they won't be mad at Moobeat. Everyone knows you never shoot the messenger, whoever gave him the information will be the one in trouble.

  6. Which makes me wonder, why do they keep this all hidden? It would be quite enjoyable for a player to read all the things they are trying out and it would get them a lot more respect than with the very limited communication they have now. It would make it more visible what kind of work goes behind the curtains and what we can expect. Would also allow for some quantitative feedback on possible changes. Riot may not like the latter because it may cause uproars, but they are making the game for the very same people in the first place.

    ReplyDelete

    1. No.

People come to expect things and when expectations aren't met pitchforks are raised. It's always a bad idea especially when something is in the earliest stages of iteration.

      Delete
    2. Definitely not considering the uproar people make when things aren't liked or don't become the final version. Take Magma Chamber for example which is still used in General Discussions as a taunt against Riot...

      Delete
    3. They keep it hidden because it is SO subject to change. So there's little benefit to let it public - any discussions in the forums about it will probably be null and void two days later.
By keeping it hidden, they can do their work in peace and not give the forum moderators a headache.

    4. Have you ever played World of Warcraft? There's a reason why their community is pure crap (trust me, I played it for over 6 years). Blizz announces all of these changes, people see them on MMO-Champion, then they complain when something good/bad happens that they don't like. Leaks can be exciting and fun, no question there, but too much of it can be a bad thing.

I don't think what the blogger did was wrong, nor the leaker. If the community can keep a strong head on its shoulders and know that this is just TESTING and not final, then it's fine.

  12. The new Heimer changes are mostly questionable and I hope they take on more changes. The passive is neat, would be interesting if they look into making scrap his resource, instead of mana. The turret's range should be no less than 500. Well, hopefully these get developed better so we can start seeing them actually releasing info to all of us.

  16. some things are nice, some a bit less ... but what I find stupid is his ult.

why make the ult cost something to make the next spell free ?
lvl 1 it costs u 150 mana to cast a spell that costs max 120 mana ...
then what about the turrets ? if u build 3 turrets with ult, are they still concidered as one or 3 (if turrets are only lvl 1 for exemple)?

and he still lacks a true ultimate. sure he'll deal a great amount of damage, but then he'll cast another spell and we'll need to wait for his spells to come back again. Still i wonder if it's a real thing

  17. While it is probably within your right as a "journalist" / "blogger" to publish the information you were provided with, I believe it's probably a bad idea overall.

Right now, the biggest issue is that you kept all the names of unsuspecting people on the website. Why do that? It's quite rude, as someone might be harassed with the information given.

I would also like to add that while there is a morality issue, the worst part is that you don't seem to care for the obvious long-term implications of a leak in a small community. While short-term, the leak does not harm the people here, it will most definitely harm the group of people that currently belong to DW.

Secondly, you are probably burning some bridges with Riot, and overall causing your name to be involved with some controversy. So, it seems to me that you didn't think this through all the way, but wanted to be the "first" to post a leak like this instead.

  34. i can't see if anyone asked, but do these changes imply that the turrets will lose all their current passives (i.e. armor/mr shred, aoe, slow on hit)? don't get me wrong, i like the increased placement range, the aoe ranged attack they gain, etc., it just wasn't clear. i view his major issues atm revolve around being mostly worthless in a team fight as he can't keep up with the flow the fight in any meaningful way. i also am not entirely thrilled about his passive change. losing the team hp/5 buff is sad and scrap seems only useful during laning phase. but as i don't play heim ranked perhaps that is exactly what was needed.

    ReplyDelete

    1. about the passive, it doesn't specify a duration on the scrap; imagine in lane if you let a lot stack up, and then could almost instantly reset all your cool downs.

    5. There is no official notice of its closing because there was no official notice of its opening either. They made PTR/DW truly private for a reason, they're not going to confirm its existence now that it's going away. PTR/DW has existed in some form for a long time now as something unknown to the general LoL audience. Suffice to say, it is now gone and the person who leaked this is responsible for it. Expect no further leaks from it and that is a fact.

  41. Is the turret health a joke????? The turrets already dont have enough health.

Honestly I play hiemer as my main and do rather well. I don't want a full rework. I want smarter less laggy turret AI and I want more turret health at higher levels. Also some more survivability would be nice.

    1. As a avid heimer player myself, I'd have to agree. This just doesn't look right... here's to hoping this isn't the final decision. Like you said, they ought to give him a few tweaks here and there, not a complete overhaul.

      Delete
    2. his turret health is only a problem now because he has only 2 turrets... when he had 3 turrets his turrets not only had worse health scaling, they did not get bonus life... and they STILL stopped entire teams. Plus, they get resistance and armor now, so the health isn't quite as bad as you'd think.

I'm pretty sure this is below the beta level guys, meaning none of this may actually be implemented. it's to test out ideas that 'might' work out, yet they're being bashed on nonetheless.

Although really, the only harm in these leaks that I can really see is to make their forum moderator's jobs harder. I'm not sure if it was worth freaking out, closing the PTR, and delaying who knows how many future champs because of it.

    2. we never tested new champions on the PTR.

    3. so, what? it was only for reworks? they did no dev testing of new champs they were working on there before they went to the PBE? For some reason I find that hard to believe...

  43. The AP ratio on turret health is very low. I cannot help to think it is an error. With the update, 500 ap only gives turrets with 175 hp.

Kind of low. I like all the other changes, a lot.

    1. It won't be as much of as an issuee as you think, as with 3 of those shooting at you, and with them getting to shoot off their burst in under 2 seconds after placement, you won't really want to be focusing those... you are more likely to either be going after heimer directly or running your ass off trying to avoid a triple blast

    2. also don't forget that the rework notes have them getting considerable armor and MR too.=, while his current turrets have none.

    3. But if you use your ulti with turrets, someone with good splash damage can kill those turrets instantly

    4. I don't think they can with the magic resist and armor they will have.. they will be dangerously low.. and haim could still heal them back and stun the spell caster if it was a point blank spell like morde's E.

    1. slow is better because is slows and slows attack speed. better for kiting and adds to heimers non existent list of reliable cc.

  46. as a heimer player the changes are pretty sweet, but 2 things i dont like are the new rockets (kinda confusing) and the new turrets seem awefully complicated. unnecessary, they were fine the way they were, but i like how you can place 3 now.

  47. The only thing I have questions about is whether we can finally tell the turrets what to attack, like you can do with the various champions that have a creature to control.

Would hate for the turrets to use their skillshots on minion waves when an enemy champion is near death nearby.

  52. All these comments and not a single one about the Yorick changes. Am I the only dude who plays that badass gravedigger? He needs some buffing to his damage fo sho. Maybe just up his passive to 10% per ghoul instead of 5%.

  53. I'm not sure how I would feel if this made it live. I like the passive and the e. Heimer will have much more sustain mana-wise, but he is still super-squishy, even more so now. The turret changes are pretty good, except for the ammo thing. That is a fucking terrible idea. It seriously nerfs his turrets. I guess with his e healing/recharging them, it's not too bad. The bit of nerfing to the turrets stats are more than made up for by the additional turret. I dont really get the "damage fall off" thing with the rockets, but other than that, I like the buff. I love the new ult. Except, I liked the old name "UPGRADE!!!" much better.

One other thing, most of the numbers for what stats were changed from are wrong. Like for turret parts, it says it used to be 2/2/2/2/2, but it is 1/1/2/2/2. It says turret AS was 1.0, but it is 1.25. Makes me think this is fake, but I kinda hope its not. Heimer really needs a burst increase to make him useful in teamfights. And if this goes live he will be throwing around AOEs like a boss.

  54. OH NO :/ DON'T CHANGE THE PASSIVE! Heimer is special because he kites and has regenerative tactics; no one can repair Towers but him! Now he is like a reg AP :( ; so typical.... I'd really rather have the HEXTECH BOTS PASSIVE not this new one! It lets him adaptable to situations and makes him an excellent and very fun top or support champ! I also dont like the sight radius of turrets change, but i guess 3 turrets cover it.

  57. any1 who thinks this remake is making heim weaker or this is a mistake shoud stop playing lol,i cant picture myself losing in mid with the new heim,i mean 3 turrets with skill shot of 0,45 ap is totally OP,heimer is the only champion that i upgrade ulti on 6,17,18lvl finally his ulti will do something now,and passive returns mana even if you failed to last hit the minion, love this rework so much, but i think removing blind is very stuppid
