Phew - today was a busy news day! Check the links to make sure you didn't miss anything.

Email Verification is here!

While I originally reported on this when it rolled out to NA a few days ago, Riot has put up an official announcement on the arrival of email verification across most servers - including EUW and RU

Here's Veruco with more info:
"As part of ongoing work to keep all Summoners’ accounts safe, we’re rolling out email verification for any and all account credential changes. Once activated by players, this system will message your verified email whenever a change is made to your account, ensuring that you know if any suspicious activity is happening.
To activate email verification and shield your account from unauthorized access just:
  • Head to leagueoflegends.com and sign in
  • Click your summoner name
  • Follow the prompts to establish a verified email account
Baddies won’t be able to change a single credential on your account without also having access to your verified email account. This is just a first step - we’re looking into many more security features to keep your account details safe like SMS protection and more, so stay tuned.
To say thanks, we’re offering up a 4-win IP boost for everyone that establishes a verified email account. Head back to leagueoflegends.com to get started."

More on Malzahar, Talon, and Darius changes in next patch

Following up on his discussion yesterday, Meddler shared a bit more on the Darius, Talon, and Malzahar changes coming in the next patch:
"Just to avoid creating high expectations the Talon, Darius and Malz stuff's all noticeable but small changes:
 - Better placement of Talon post Cutthroat
- Longer period to use the ult's recast for Darius
- Malz's ult now interupts charges/leaps in progress by the target"
He continued, elaborating that the Malzahar changes will not work on targets who go CC immune during their ults :
"CC immune targets will still not have their leaps/charges interrupted by Malz's ult after this change."
When asked if the Darius change will only cause Darius to have a longer cool down if he lands the refresh, Meddler commented:
"The cooldown on Darius's ult does start, behind the scenes, from the moment of the reset, so extending the recast window will not increase the amount of time until the ult's off CD again."

PBE Update Schedule

As you may have noticed, we had two PBE updates on January 10th - one of which came late at night, abruptly ending games in-progress.

Here's Riot Feithen with a few comments on the PBE update schedule:
"We try to provide as much notice as possible, but often we get in critical fixes that require PBE testing immediately. We also normally only do one deploy per day, in the early morning/afternoon. Tonight was a bit of an exception.
It's one of the downsides of being on the PBE and we'll certainly try to get the warnings up earlier whenever possible. "

EU LCS Replacement Play-in Information

Due to the Lemondogs being removed from the upcoming LCS season, three teams - Ninjas in Pyjamas, Supa Hot Crew and Meet Your Makers - will be playing a streamed three way qualifier on Saturday, Jan 11th at 17:00 CET/ 8:00 AM PST.

Here's RiotNickAllen with more info:
"Hello Summoners!
As many of you have heard, Lemondogs has been removed from the LCS, and will no longer be a part of the 2014 spring split.
Because of this sudden change, we have to replace them on very short notice. The losing teams from the Promotion Qualifier, Ninjas in Pyjamas, Supa Hot Crew and Meet Your Makers will play a three way qualifier according to standard LCS tiebreaking procedure - The teams will play a BO1 round robin. If there is a tie after these games, then the teams will randomly be placed into a single elimination bracket to determine who will earn the spot.
The event will be commentated by Deman and Quickshot and you will be able to watch all the games on Twitch
The matches begin Saturday January 11, 17:00 CET / 8:00 AM PST.
SCHEDULE:
17:00 CET: NIP vs. MYM
18:00 CET: MYM vs. SHC
19:00 CET: NIP vs. SHC
Team rosters are listed below in position order.
MYM: Kubon, Mokatte, Czaru, Makler, Libik
NIP: Zorozero, Fury III, Nukeduck, Freeze, Mithy
SHC: Mimer, Impaler, Moopz, Mr Rallez, Migxa"
