11/22 PBE Catchup: Splash Arts, Varus VFX Update, & More

Here's the latest from the PBE covering the last few days, while we were out of town attending the Undercity Nights event! As we continue the 11.23 PBE cycle, today's bulk update includes splashes, a VFX update for Varus, and more!

Varus VFX Update

Here's Riot Sirhaian with a feedback thread on a Varus VFX update that is now testing on the PBE:
"Hello everyone! 
Similar to the previous VFX updates we’ve made in the past (Syndra, Zilean, Malzahar, etc), we're working on updates to the Visual Effects (VFX) of champions whose spell effects are in need of some love. Our aim is to get their VFXs to current League standards and improve gameplay clarity. 
This time, it's Varus's turn, for 11.24's PBE Patch! 
Just like all the previous ones, and since these are smaller updates geared toward sprucing up some of the oldest members of the roster, they aren't in the same prioritization conversation as to how we decide who gets a VGU (where we take model, gameplay, and thematic into account too!): they do not affect any other timeline, and are simply dev passion projects. 
Here's a video preview of the changes. As usual, the more recent the skins are, the less changes they are getting. His most recent skins only received very minimal tweaks (or not at all). 
The main goal we had for this one VFX Update was to improve clarity, especially for his Q and R missile widths.

1) Riot Phlox tweeted a reminder that this is a three week patch due to the upcoming US holiday:
"Patch preview's gonna be next week, since the next patch is 2 weeks from now. 11.23's a 3 week patch because of Thanksgiving  
We do have a micropatch today to fix some edgecases with objective bounties though."

2) Riot Reinboom tweeted 11.24 changes for Ultimate Spellbook:

"For Ultimate Spellbook in 11.24, we'll be adding 8 new ults and removing 2 of the lowest playrate ults:

New:

* Cassiopeia

Hello All! Thank you everyone that left feedback! The team had a look and was able to make a few updates: 
  • Debonair Malzahar's hair color was been aligned with splash.
  • Debonair Malzahar's hand coloring has been adjusted to reducing the muddiness on the chromas.
  • Debonair Malzahar Malefic's Visions (E) VFX has been updated. Appears less like Base Malzahar's Malefic Visions (E) VFX.

"updated 11/19/2021 in response to PBE feedback: 
Q and W SFX: Tonal elements of the Q axe catching were called out as overwhelming and too hollow/spacey when spammed alongside W. We turned down those elements to alleviate the harshness and hollowness by letting it remain on the W predominantly!
Chromas: We passed feedback onto the appropriate team for chromas. In the future, please put chroma feedback in the appropriate thread to make sure the team that owns them sees it.
Color palette: We hear you on the green! Changing the entire color palette of a skin line is out of scope for PBE so we will not be acting on this, but rest assured we plan to increase our color variety for future skins!
Champ selection: We hear you on this as well! Unfortunately, due to roadmap shuffling we had to move certain skins to 2022. We promised this year and want to apologize for falling short.  We're working hard to make sure we can serve all our players skins more often for their favorite champions. 
Thank you players, we appreciate your thoughts and time taken to give feedback!"
