A few loose ends on a slow news day.

Posted on at 4:00 AM by Moobeat
News has been slow over the past day or so. From Gamescom absorbing all the Rioters and dampening our amount of red posts to the recent reveal of Syndra cutting off any additional spoilers or murmurs about the next champion, we haven't had a lot going on outside of all the eSports stuff.

Here is a small grab bag of different things to keep you entertained! Featuring the return of an old Teemo bug, a new survey from Riot about some potential features for Spectator mode, some new Chinese splash arts, and more!
Teemo players unite! If you were experimenting with the recently buffed AP Teemo, you might have noticed the dreaded "first tick of E's poison damage doesn't work above a certain attack speed" bug, that has plagued Teemo in the past, is back. However, Certainlyt posted saying "We're fixing this, at a minimum by next patch."

Riot sent out a survey recently ( randomly and by email ) to gauge the importance players place on additional Spectator mode features. Here is a list of the options:
The ability to filter games by champion.
Mentoring Mode (letting a play spectate with no delay and help tech )
Spectator chat ( chat room for spectators )
Replay mode ( for your games and other player's games )
Improved Directed Camera
The ability to spectate the same game a friend is spectating
I think its quite obvious that having a replay system is at the top of everyone's list, but what about the others? What do YOU think should top the rest of the list? After all, the competition certainly has them beat in the Spectator arena...

Anyway! There are also a slew of new Chinese splash arts cropping up lately.  Here is the imgur album, courtesy of redditor Beeleebalabu and taken from lol.178.com:
I'm always unsure if I should share this sort of content. On one hand, I rarely cover anything about the SEA servers so I don't want anyone to be confused about these splashes and if they are on the EU/NA servers. On the other hand, this art is supremely awesome and commonly makes it's way into the EU/NA servers. What do you guys think?

Moving on, Riot also put up an interview with Classick, the man behind Rengar's kit, where he talks about what went into our ferocious new champion . It's rather lengthy so I won't post it all, but here is a small excerpt where where Classick is talking about the flavor behind Bonetooth Necklace:
"We wanted to find some cool gameplay that lets you become the trophy hunter, gives you the feel of being Rengar. Since he’s the ultimate trophy hunter we wanted to make it feel like Rengar was getting more and more powerful as he collected trophies from his kills. He becomes more self-fulfilled, since that’s his big thing – he looks for the biggest prey. We tried to create a sort of side quest if you choose to go with the Bonetooth Necklace. If your focus is on picking up kills and gaining power over time, it might be a good decision. "
Speaking of Rengar, we still have no official date on this release. If I had to put out a guess though, I'd go with Tuesday once everyone settles back in from Gamescom.

Lastly, the final day of the EU Regionals is underway! Tune in to get your eSports fix.

P.S: For those asking, my local team placed second in the Gaming Utopia tournament that I posted about a while back. Go us! Keep an eye out for more events at GU in the near future!

  3. I love all the arts, the Safari Cait one especially, but I know the community has a habit of dissing any sexualized-Cait arts as they tend to remove her serious cop persona. Although this one...Not too bad. And nooooo email from Riot :P I think I'd like to filter games by champion more than a replay mode though...

    1. I dont really think that resembles to Caitlyn, when i first saw it i thought it was miss fortune haha.

The chinese artworks are always amazing but i dont think they should use them cause its creating the wrong idea about how the champion will look in the game. The american ones so to speak are better cause those match the champion in game looks perfectly, the chinese ones are great but they might give u the wrong idea and when a new player buys a champ that has a great chinese splash he might be dissapointed when he sees it in game.

    2. OP here: I can agree for some of the chinese arts that they don't reflect the character model in game. One way to deal with this would be to hurry up and update the 40-something champs who need a model update, so then at least the Chinese artwork might ressemble them. The Safari Cait, whilst amazing should probably have minor alterations - A Safari background and a reduced breast size, then she'd look almost exactly like Cait. Really, even if artwork points anyone torwards a champion, they should see the champion in game via a spotlight or something before buying to avoid disappointments. I didn't buy Orianna for ages because her artwork never really showed her as the amazing clockwork girl she is, so I favour the chinese art updates generally for the excellent detail.

    3. As a conclusion chinese splash arts should remain for the chinese people because I really think Riot has a ton of people in their staff very capable of doing some amazing splash arts.

I have looked upon many times on the "original" splash arts of each and every champion and they are amazing because they are real(representing perfectly what you get in game).

I've discovered LOL because of those splash arts so they should really stop replacing them.

    4. Um... does he realize that it takes less time to make splash art than it does to create entirely new models (which knowing riot will include either new animations, particles or both).

One of the reasons they're switching to the chinese art is because they're using it as a placeholder until they can add their own art.

    5. (OP)@ Most recent Anon: That is indeed correct and another reason why I think nobody should really complain if artwork is switched to the chinese, since they are temporary. The only thing that matters in the artwork is the quality of the art. And honestly, most chinese artworks to present the characters well in game.

  6. On the reddit blog about the arts, seems that most people have a problem with Cait's safari (which I think is awesome) and Xin's Hussar (due to the lack of Polish-style accuracy).

  7. Id love to see blue/red/baron buff indicators next to character portaits, dragon/baron kills next to the tower kills indicator, and a baked in jungle timers for spectator mode like they overlay at major tournament streams.

Would realy add more at a glance info to spectator mode.

  10. I think the mentoring mode could kind of be something like a coach in a basketball game... So that could be really interesting. I mean like you could spectate the game but with the same fog of war as the person you are spectating and you can type to the team. If that is the case, I would definitely love to see that.

    Keep it up =D

  12. "We tried to create a sort of side quest if you choose to go with the Bonetooth Necklace." WOW. IT'S JUST ANOTHER SNOWBALL ITEM. Leave it to morello and the other douchebags to try and make a small addition desperately look like a big deal.

    1. Think about it. Rengar is lacking a real ultimate. Its only utility at this point. So that leaves him with only 3 spells. this item is going to help him have some consistent dmg

      Delete
    2. Other than that being a really negative view of the item, its less of an emphasis on the fact that its a snowball item and the fact that its optional, because there was a lot of blowback on Viktor being tied to his Hextech Augment, essentially leaving him without a fifth item.

@Anon: I mean, I guess it doesn't do damage if thats a requirement for you to consider it an ultimate, but it has a ton of utility packing into it for its short cooldown. It reveals all enemy champions (including stealthed) for your team a la TF, grants movespeed, stealths yourself, enables the passive gap closer, and has a hard vanish so you can use it for easy escapes if you so choose. Its a very strong utility ultimate and it fits right at home on him.

    3. Wait, does his ultimate reveal ALL enemies, or just enemies in a LARGE circle around him?

Answer (just checked): enemies around him, but covering a large area - not exactly like TF ;)

    2. Yes, he ruined the site by making the UI for US (including you) easier to understand and more organized. And honestly its not that big of a change. I honestly love the site either way.If you really want to help you'd give feedback and not extreemly rude comments like that.

    3. What drop down bar are you rambling on about? Maybe if you explain what you want, it might pop up on the site by the next day.

    4. If it's about the "CONTINUE READING" thing - that was a personal decision of Moobeat's, I have no part in it. I have no way of making it "drop down" and extend the post instead of taking you to a new page, as that will not only lose the purpose of the whole "continue reading" function but it also an effective waste of time.

The "read more" function is there because Moobeat is concerned about lower-end PC users who visit the site and have to wait a buttload of time for it to completely load up. In order for me to make it "drop down" or "extend" or w/e you wanna call it, I'd have to pre-load the whole post content (and hide a part of it visually), which on it's own kills the whole idea of making the website load/bandwidth a lot lower by cutting the front page's content down to short resumes of the actual articles.

I hope this clears things up for you on this particular subject.

    5. Not sure if he was thinking of that kind of 'drop down bar'... :S

If I may comment, I personally find that 'continue reading' option very handy. Though my PC was never slowed by those lengthy posts in the past, it was still very irritating - having to scroll down through the whole post just to click the 'XX comments' link ;)

Now, with the shortened entries on the main page, it's much easier to navigate straight to the place I want to visit.

So, frostyNinja - don't mind his words - there are people who appreciate the new design :D

  17. Some of them look okish, but for the most part I don't like the chinese splash arts at all. I don't get why Riot is replacing the American art with this. I would really hate if they would change the current Arctic Warfare Caitlyn to this :'(

    1. Chinese arts are used to update older, not-so-good NA artwork. These Chinese artworks are temporary stand-ins until Riot makes some new NA artwork for the champions. From the artistic perspective, they are superior and fitting replacements for the outdated artwork. In all honesty, I can't see why you wouldn't like the Arctic Warfare Cait, which, unlike all her other chinese artworks, isn't all sexual - Which has always been the reason people reject her chinese artworks (and this current Safari).
