7-10 News: Stealth Update, More Model Updates, Zyra's CC, Jayce's Lore Update, and Xin's rework!

Posted on at 4:39 PM by Moobeat
We've had news today pertaining to the Stealth Remake, more model updates for older champions ( Twitch, Eve, and Karma! ), another snippet about Zyra, an update to Jayce's lore, and the arrival time of Xin Zhao's rework.

The biggest news of the day is the details surrounding the elusive Stealth Remake. I've already dedicated an entire post to the announcement, but here is a TL:DR version of what we now know ( taken from the initial posts and subsequent answers from the Reds ):

Evelynn's stealth is still permanent, but she is now  automatically revealed when she comes near enemy champions ( slightly larger distance than the range of Annie's Q or Ryze's W ). This distance is long enough that there is no difference between a champion with Oracle's Elixir and one without it seeing her. Additionally,  one of her new base abilities now grants stacking movement speed when on spell hits and a short term activation speed boost. She's also receiving changes to Hate Spike; it can now hit more targets, has a much larger range, has a longer cool down, and prioritizes very intelligently. Lastly, her ultimate is an AOE nuke that slows enemies and grants her increased durability based on how many champion's she hits. Her most common role during internal testing has been a jungler, although she's shown promise in other roles, and she is still viable with several different item builds.

Twitch now has a tactical stealth similar to Talon or Shaco - he activates the skill, stealth's for a short amount of time, then comes out with an attack speed buff - in addition to heavier reliance on stacking his poisons, better scaling on Expunge, retooling of his ultimate ( including an increased missile speed and an interaction with W ), a new ability called "Venom Cask", better base stats, and more responsive animations. He is also a more viable bottom lane pick.

If you'd like to take a look at the continuing discussion by the Rioters, feel free to browse the thread via CLG's Red Tracker. If you'd like to try them out for yourself, you'll have to wait until the next PBE update!

Within the Stealth Update thread, Morello also, mentioned that Twitch and Evelynn are both slated for graphical remakes in "awhile" with Soraka, Katarina, and Karma receiving the most imminent updates. While Soraka and Katarina are common knowledge, I believe this is the first confirmation that Karma is going to get some model love. This is most certainly the "non-gameplay improvements" that Guinsoo mentioned in his tweet yesterday.

Our "spoiled" image of Zyra, our 101st champion and plant mage
Speaking of Morello, he has continued to tease us with small details about Zyra, this time mentioning that she will have "2 hard cc and a slow". Still no news if Zyra will make her debut during a patch next week or not, but I'm sure we will see a teaser soon if so!

Viktor and Jayce, lore based rivals!
Lastly, Riot has provided Jayce with a new background lore, as prompted by community dissatisfaction about his original lore submission. Below is the new lore, as well as a message from Harrow, an associate creative designer at Riot, about the changes:
"Hi everyone,

I'm Harrow, the Creative Designer who worked on Jayce and wrote his lore. As RiotRunaan mentioned a few days ago, we wanted to improve Jayce's bio to better communicate how we see both Jayce and Viktor and the conflict between them. It'll take a bit of time to update the client, but we wanted to share our new Jayce lore with you on the forums:
Quote:
Armed with wit, charm, and his signature transforming hammer, Jayce lives to protect his native Piltover. Long before his nation called him a hero, however, he was a promising young inventor. When Piltover commissioned him to study a rare arcane crystal, Jayce discovered it could be used as a vast energy source. Eager to make a name for himself, he began developing a device to harness its power. Word of the crystal’s potential reached beyond the borders of Piltover. Viktor, the machine-augmented scientist from Zaun, brought Jayce an offer - together, they could use the crystal to advance his “glorious evolution,” a vision of humanity fused with technology. Jayce refused, but the Zaunite had no intention of leaving empty handed. He effortlessly blasted Jayce aside and seized the crystal, incinerating the lab's meager security force as he left for Zaun. Jayce implored the Piltover government to respond, but the officials refused to support an act of aggression. He decided to act alone, realizing that if no one struck back, Piltover would never be safe.

Jayce returned to the lab to prepare for his attack. After intense research, development, and hands-on testing, he emerged with his crowning achievement - the Mercury Hammer. Weapon in hand, Jayce marched to Zaun and began his one-man assault. Viktor's acolytes rushed to stop him, but Jayce smashed them aside, fighting his way into the heart of the lab. Inside, Jayce saw the horrifying brilliance of Viktor’s creations, all powered by the energy of the arcane crystal. He realized that his only option was to destroy the power source, but Viktor stood in his way. Though their clash left both scientists heavily wounded, Jayce managed a desperate strike at the crystal. He shattered it and escaped as Viktor’s machines erupted in flames. When he returned home, exhausted but victorious, the citizens of Piltover hailed Jayce as a hero. He reveled in the adoration, but knew that his actions had drawn the attention of dangerous enemies. Now devoted to the defense of his people, Jayce is Piltover's best hope for a bright future.

"Trust me: if we're smart, Piltover can stand strong against any threat. Hey, I'm living proof." - Jayce
I'd like to talk about some of the changes we made and the reasoning behind them.

One issue you raised was that the Lore made Viktor seem weaker than Jayce. It was never my intention to show Viktor as weak, but I can see how the focus on Jayce and the lack of description of their conflict allowed for that interpretation. In the new version, I call out that that Viktor effortlessly brushes aside Jayce in their first confrontation, and that Jayce's counter-attack is a real struggle.

Viktor's initial goal has also changed. Rather than seeking to steal technology of Jayce's design, Viktor's interest is now drawn by a rare, powerful resource. Considering himself the only scientist capable of properly exploiting such a resource, Viktor first asks Jayce to join his cause. When Jayce refuses to work with him, he wastes no time in taking the crystal for his own ends. While I believe that Viktor's pursuit of his glorious evolution is slowly eroding his care for "morality," I agree that it was a misstep to have Viktor fall from his old ideals without telling the story of how that could happen. Viktor still ruthlessly follows his goals in the new version, but without betraying the principles and pride he displayed in his own origin story. Now, he doesn't take from Jayce because he needs someone else's technology. Instead, he has such faith in his own designs that such a valuable resource is utterly wasted in another's hands.

This is only the beginning of Jayce's story, as seen from his perspective. While Jayce clearly considers Viktor to be a dangerous menace, the Machine Herald's true intentions remain a mystery. It also remains to be seen how Jayce handles the fallout from his show of strength.

I want to thank you all again for your feedback, and I hope this new story gives you all a better understanding of Jayce and his conflict with Viktor. You’ve helped us build a better story for our 100th champion"

Solcrushed, who has mentioned the Xin Zhao update in the past, also had some good news for us today. He revealed, rather dramatically, that the Xin rework will be coming during the same patch as the aforementioned Stealth rework! He later mentioned a few details about the changes we can expect to see: A new passive, Changes to Q and W, E is pretty much the same, and R has been "epicced"

As always, feel free to leave feedback in the comments and be on the look out for a house keeping sort of post about the blog ( and an RP giveaway! ) soon!

  1. All's good and well but, man, what about some Twisted Fate reworks? I mean, I know all of the above mentioned need it too, and Karma's my main so I love that they are fixing her, but Twisted is just sooo... Outdated! His model is terrible, his animations aren't adequate, and he has the awesome new artwork, so... Here's hoping he gets some love too, cos' right now, for me personally, he is unplayable! I have issues with bad models ha ha ha
Cheers, and thanks for the regular updates on the latest LoL news!

  2. On the Jayce story re-work, definitely way better, but if Jayce is Piltover's best hope, then what's Caitlyn? Chopped liver?

    1. Put Jayce vs Cait in lane with each other. I bet you Jayce will hammer her face into oblivion.

    2. This is how I see it: Caitlyn takes care of things within Piltover and Jayce takes care of protecting it from outside invaders.

    3. Well it seems more like Cait's the one that ensures that law and order is upheld while Jayce is the vigilante that does things that the enforcers cannot do (essentially their hands are tied).

    So Viktor became Saren.

    1. No wonder each time I played Mass Effect I felt that I saw Saren somewhere or at least something related to him.

  10. I want a ugly/fat female champ, are the Riot workers so horny that they always have to make sexy females ^^ ?

    1. Sex sells though....so I doubt we'll see ugly, normal human looking champs anytime soon

    2. A horrible face can be covered up with anything from armor to inordinate amounts of cloth. So even if Riot would declare her ugly, the champion can still be sexed up in many unique ways.
In the words of my friend, "just put a paper bag on her face, and she'd be bangable."

As to fat, I don't think so.

They're called champions so most of the humans are fit.

Make them chubby you say? One, they can be turned to Yordles. Or two, like I said before; they can be sexed up.

Obese? Riot tried that with Urgot, even if Urgot is a unique and powerful champ a LOT of poeple don't play him due to his hideous appearance. The only time I saw a boost in Urgot users was when Battle Cast Urgot came out and it hid everything ugly about him, which was EVERYTHING about him.

And mind you I know a lot of gamers girls who are getting girl boners just looking at Xyra's sexy back. that or you know jealousy.

Sorry but real hideous Champions don't really fit to the graphical theme of LoL, nor will it bring money to Riot, which they need, cause you know, it's their job.

    3. Now why would you want an ugly/fat female champ? Aren't you suppossed to like what you see when playing instead of seeing something horrible? (Urgot is damn right ugly, but he's a man or something like that, not a woman)

  11. cant wait to see those karma changes. Wonder if i'll still be able to solo top her well after the changes

  12. I'm also curious if this will be more of a jungle rework, or if he'll be more of a bruiser now.

    1. It wouldn't matter, most effective junglers are bruisers or tanks who if you haven't notice are powerful solo tops as well.

  16. Now I'm extremely curious about these reworks, I may even buy Twitch soon. Xin is among my favourite champs and the first one I played LoL with so I'm eager to see the rework, as for Eve, hell its about time I play her more.
